Take it Higher

Scripture:

II Kings 15:34-35 "Jotham did what was pleasing in the Lord's sight.  He did everything his father, Uzziah, had done.  But he did not destroy the pagan shrines, and the people still offered sacrifices and burned incense there.  He rebuilt the upper gate of the Temple of the Lord."

Observation:

Jotham did what was pleasing in God's sight.  He did everything his father did, but he should have taken it farther.  He used his father as an example instead of seeking the Lord to see what to do.  He followed the Lord, but he only felt convicted to do what his father had done.

Application:

Sometimes we tend to compare ourselves with our predecessors instead of doing what we need to in following the Lord.  When we compare ourselves with ourselves, we will never be who God wants us to be.  We will do what others are doing instead of what God wants us to do.  We must pursue God on our own and walk in obedience to Him above all else.

Prayer:

Lord God Almighty, help me to follow You with all my heart and not compare my walk with you to anyone else.  I want to walk in Your ways and follow your heart.  I don't want to settle to live with you as others have, but I want to take it higher and walk in deeper relationship with You.

Your Son,
Jeff
