When I See the Blood

Scripture:

“Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.”
‭‭Exodus‬ ‭12:13‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Observation:

When God hardened Pharaoh’s heart throughout all the plagues, he would not let God’s people go out from his country.  The final plague was to be the death of the firstborn of each household.  God told Moses to have the people of Israel to put blood on the door posts and on the lintels of their dwelling places.  He said when the death angel comes to destroy, when they see the blood, they will pass over that house and not destroy the firstborn.

Application:

God’s people were protected from the plagues of Egypt.  In this last plague, He told them He would pass over them if He saw the blood.  As God’s children now, who have been adopted into His family, we have the blood of Jesus Christ, God’s Son covering our lives.  We are protected from anything and everything that may come against us.  When the blood of Jesus is covering our lives, we are safe in the hands of a God who loves us.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for covering me with the blood of Your dear Son.  Thank You for protecting me from any and all things that come against me.  Thank You for allowing Your Son to be the payment for my sins and for giving me hope and a future.  You are the best!  May Your Kingdom come and Your will be done in my life.

Yours,
Jeff

That My Name May Be Declared

Scripture:

“But indeed for this purpose I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the earth.”
‭‭Exodus‬ ‭9:16‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Observation:

This verse takes place in the midst of the plagues of Egypt where God was telling Pharaoh to let His people go.  He said to Pharaoh that the purpose God had raised up Pharaoh was to show His power and that His name would be declared in all the earth.  God was using Egypt to demonstrate His power and for His name to be feared in all the earth.

Application:

God has always desired for the world to know Him and to see His power and goodness.  His will has always been the extension of His kingdom in all the earth.  When we get on board with the plans and purposes of God, we will see His blessings.  God raises us up to show His power through us and to declare His name in all the earth.  We are blessed to bring Him praise.  When we understand this fully, we will see His blessing on our lives more and more.

Prayer:

Lord God Almighty, let my life be used for Your purposes in the earth.  Demonstrate Your power and goodness through my life.  Give me testimonies to share with the world and open doors for me to spread Your kingdom throughout all the earth.  I give my life for Your purposes Lord.  I am Yours.  Establish Your kingdom through my life.

Jeff

Hearing Through Hurt

Scripture:

“So Moses spoke thus to the children of Israel; but they did not heed Moses, because of anguish of spirit and cruel bondage.”
‭‭Exodus‬ ‭6:9‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Observation:

God had spoken to Moses and told him that He was going to bring His people out of Egypt and into the land of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.  He said He was going to deliver them, but they did not heed Moses because of anguish of spirit and cruel bondage.  They couldn’t hear from God in the midst of their oppression.

Application:

Sometimes God is trying to speak into our hearts, but because things have gone wrong or God doesn’t appear to have come through for us, it is difficult to received the word of the Lord.  Sometimes we can’t hear the word of the Lord because of hurt or disappointment with God in our lives.  When our heart is crushed, it is difficult to hear that God is going to deliver us, but we must hear and trust the word of the Lord, even when it doesn’t seem to have worked in the past.

Prayer:

Father, let me not hear Your word through the lens of hurt or disappointment.  Help me to hear clearly what You are speaking to me.  Teach me to trust Your word, even when I don’t understand it and it hasn’t happened like I thought it would.  I want to walk by faith and not by sight in 2020.

Yours,
Jeff

Affliction and Multiplication

Scripture:

“But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were in dread of the children of Israel.”
‭‭Exodus‬ ‭1:12‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Observation:

God had led His people into Egypt to be protected and fed during a time of great famine.  They ended up staying in the land and multiplying there until the Egyptians became afraid because of their sheer numbers.  The Egyptians began using them as slaves and afflicting them, “but the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew.”

Application:

Even in our worst times, God can be at work causing His people to multiply and grow.  Some of the greatest seasons of persecution in the Church have also been the seasons of greatest growth.  When God’s people start getting afflicted and persecuted, He always takes note and begins to work.  In our personal lives, when we are being afflicted, we can know that growth is coming.  We can never feel like God is not taking good care of us, He is working His plan and multiplication is coming.

Prayer:

Father God, You are the one who blessed Israel in their worst season of affliction and persecution.  You caused them to multiply and become a powerful people in the midst of their suffering.  May I always know that You are with me and working on my behalf.  May I always know that You are working, even when I don’t see it and it doesn’t feel like it.  You are incredible.

Yours,
Jeff

Resurrection Power

Scripture:

“and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭27:52-53‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Observation:

These verses are seldom talked about concerning the resurrection of Jesus from the dead.  HIs resurrection has always been the central theme of the message of Christ, and it should be, but if I was alive during this time and I saw many resurrected saints coming into the holy city, I would be shaken to the core.  It doesn’t say how many, but these verses are so powerful and such a confirmation to the resurrection of Christ for the people of Jerusalem.  Jesus wasn’t the only one who resurrected that day!

Application:

If God can resurrect, not only Jesus, but many of the saints who came out of their graves, what is impossible for God?  He can do more than I can ask, think , or even imagine.  Eye hasn’t seen or ear heard or the mind even imagined the things the Lord has in store for His people.  It is time for me to believe God for what looks impossible and know that God can do exceedingly, abundantly, more than I can even imagine, and I have a strong imagination.

Prayer:

Lord, increase my faith.  Help me to walk closer to You this year than ever before.  Help me to walk in confidence that truly nothing is impossible for You.  I know that theologically and have always believed that, but I want it to sink strongly in my heart more and more this year.  I want to live a life of faith.

Your Son,
Jeff

Forsaken

Scripture:

“But all this was done that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples forsook Him and fled.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭26:56‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Observation:

Jesus had called His disciples very personally and lived with them for 3-1/2 years.  They watched all of His miracles and learned of Him.  They knew the Master better than anyone on the planet, yet it says here that “all” the disciples forsook  Him and fled.  Jesus knows what it is like to have those you are giving your life for, walk away and forsake you.

Application:

It hurts when people you have walked and served Jesus with for a long time walk out on you.  There is great pain when you feel forsaken, but Jesus didn’t have one individual forsake Him, this passage says all His disciples forsook Him and fled.  I hate ever having people walk away.  How would I handle having everyone walk away?  I want to be strong and confident in my walk with the Lord so that I can handle whatever comes my way in serving the Lord.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, empower me to respond like You respond then things don’t go my way or when people walk away.  Teach me to walk through the difficult seasons with grace and humility.  I want to be more like You in every area.  Enable me to walk in confidence in my relationship with You, even when it seems like things are against me and not going the way I want them to.

Yours,
Jeff

My Life’s Pursuit and Passion

Scripture:

“Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭22:37‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Observation:

When Jesus was asked by the religious leaders which of the commands were the most important, His response was fantastic.  He replied that if you do two things, you will fulfill all the others.  Love God with everything you have and love your neighbor as yourself.  Today, the word “all” jumped off the page.

Application:

I don’t want to love God with some of my heart, soul and mind.  I want to love God with ALL my heart, ALL my soul, and ALL my mind.  We talk about being “All In” on things, which means I’m giving 100% toward that thing.  I don’t want to get to heaven and have the Lord say, “You loved Me with 75% of your heart, soul and mind.”

Prayer:

Lord, teach me to love You with ALL that I am.  Help me to truly seek Your kingdom first and Your will.  I don’t want to be a partial worshiper.  I don’t want to give part of my life to You.  I want to give it all.  Empower me to live that kind of life.  I know I sing, “I surrender all”, but help me to truly live it out every day.  ALL is my life’s pursuit and passion.

Yours,
Jeff

A House of Prayer

Scripture:

“And He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’ ””
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭21:13‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Observation:

Jesus was upset with what was going on in the Temple area.  There were people buying and selling to make a prophet off of the sacrificial system.  They had turned the Temple into a place where they could cheat people and make money.  Jesus overturned the their tables and said His house was to be call a house of prayer, but they had made it a den of thieves.

Application:

My first application is that prayer needs to be one of the main priorities of the Church.  Prayer is our connection with the Lord and should be of primary importance.  Everything should start in prayer.  Secondly, we are told by Paul that we are the Temple of the Holy Spirit.  Our personal lives should be lives of prayer.  Prayer should not be something we do periodically, but something we are.

Prayer:

Lord, like Your disciples, I come to You and say teach me to pray.  Build up my prayer life and let everything in my life come out of prayer.  Let my prayer time increase in 2020 and let my personal temple be a house of prayer.  I want to spend more time with You this year than every before.

Yours,
Jeff

Faith, Prayer and Fasting

Scripture:

“So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.””
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭17:20-21‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Observation:

Jesus had just freed a young man from epilepsy.  The man asked why the disciples earlier to cast it out, but they were not able.  When Jesus was alone with them they asked Him why they couldn’t free the young man.  Jesus told them with faith anything is possible, then told them that this kind takes faith, prayer and fasting.  When you couple the three together, you will see greater results.  Jesus didn’t “pray” for the boy, He spoke to the demon and told it to go.  The prayer Jesus was talking about was not prayer for a person, but your personal constant prayer life.

Application:

I want to be a person of faith, prayer and fasting.  Faith can move mountains, but sometimes we need prayer and fasting coupled with it.  In prayer and fasting we connect with God and walk with Him, then when issues arise around us, we will have the faith and authority to speak to the mountains and tell them to move.  Faith comes by hearing, therefore I need more time in the word and in prayer to hear what the Spirit is saying.

Prayer:

Father, You paid an incredible price for Your church and Your children to do Your works in the earth. Help me not to look for shortcuts or anything else to seeing Your Kingdom come.  Empower me to spend time with You and Your Word so I can walk in faith and see Your kingdom built.  Help me to be a man of faith, prayer and fasting.

Jeff

The Heart Monitor

Scripture:

“‘These people draw near to Me with their mouth, And honor Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭15:8‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Observation:

Jesus always went to the heart of the matter.  He talked here about those who draw near to Him with their mouth, but whose heart is still far from Him.  Jesus wants our mouth to reflect our heart.  If we honor Him with our lips, our hearts should follow also be close to Him.

Application:

When you have issues with your heart and the doctor needs to know what is happening he will ask you to wear a heart monitor for a few days.  This allows them to check your heart and how it responds to different things.  We need to allow the Holy Spirit heart monitor to continually check us as we follow the Lord.  Our desire is for our lips to reflect our heart.  I want to be a person who practices what I preach and lives what I teach.

Prayer:

Father, help me to honor You with my lips and my life.  Let my life reflect Your goodness and let my heart be pure before You at all times.  Examine me and show me areas of my life that need changed.  Holy Spirit be my heart monitor and show me the things that don’t match the teachings of my lips.

Yours,
Jeff

Unity is Powerful

Scripture:

“But Jesus knew their thoughts, and said to them: “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭12:25‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Observation:

Jesus was accused of casting out devils by Beelzebub.  His reply was that a divided kingdom is brought to nothing and a city or house that is divided can’t stand.  He was teaching them that when there is division, there is no power.  When there is discord, there is no real authority.  On the opposite hand, where there is unity, there is power and authority.

Application:

A house divided won’t stand, but a house united has great authority.  When we are not in unity, we are not walking in the fullness of God’s power.  Unity requires humility, trust, preferring others above self, and submission to authority.  When we humble ourselves and seek he greater good, we will see God move in power.  I long to see a truly unified church.  It was the prayer of Jesus that His people may be one.  I want to see what happens when His church is really ONE.

Prayer:

Lord, as for me and my house, let there be unity.  Let my life be a unifying force in the Body of Christ.  I want to see Your kingdom united.  Help me not to bring division, but unity to Your people.  Let my life be an influence in bringing unity to Your Body.  I want to see a powerful church that is doing Your will in the earth and not attacking one another.

Yours,
Jeff

Teaching, Preaching, and Healing

Scripture:

“Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭9:35‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Observation:

In the prior couple chapters we see Jesus moving around from place to place doing the work of the ministry.  His emphasis was on the kingdom of God and the results were amazing.  This part of Jesus’ ministry was focused on teaching, preaching, and healing the sick.

Application:

If we want to really be followers of Christ, we need to do what He did.  He sent His Spirit to empower us to finish His work.  We have been given everything it takes to establish and extend God’s kingdom.  Teaching brings understanding to people, preaching proclaims the Good News of the Kingdom, and healing alleviates the suffering of people.  We must be about the things that Jesus was about.

Prayer:

Father, I want to establish and extend Your kingdom in my generation.  Give me opportunities to teach, preach and heal the sick.  In our church, enable us to be effective at teaching, preaching and healing every aspect of people’s lives.  Empower us as You did the early church to advance Your cause in the earth.

Yours Forever,
Jeff

Be Careful with Your Words

Scripture:

“But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5:37‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Observation:

Jesus said here that we need to let our yes be yes and our no be no.  He continued and said that anything more than this is from the evil one.  We don’t want to say anything that is from the evil one. Once we move past “yes” or “no” we are generally making excuses or shifting blame.

Application:

I don’t want to live shifting blame, pointing fingers, or making excuses.  I want my yes to be yes and my no to be no.  Everything else is dangerous ground.  I want my feet on the solid foundation of truth and not cover up.  It is very easy to shift things a little to soften an answer or to make an excuse, but truth is more important.

Prayer:

Father, help my yes to be yes and my no to be no.  Help me not to add to or take away from the truth. It is the truth that makes me free and I want to walk in that.  Empower me to live in the truth as You are in the truth.

Yours,
Jeff

Communication Through Dreams

Scripture:

“But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea instead of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. And being warned by God in a dream, he turned aside into the region of Galilee.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭2:22‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Observation:

In Matthew chapter 2 there are four times where people were warned by God in a dream.  Of course this is in dealing with the safety of the Son of God, but there is validity to God speaking to people in dreams.  God definitely communicated with the people of this story through dreams.  They had to walk in confidence that their dreams were actually God speaking to them and leading them.

Application:

God spoke to people in the Scriptures through dreams very often.  Today if we tell someone God spoke to us through a dream there is immediately some resistance because the source of dreams is a contention.  As for me, I want God to communicate with me through dreams for my personal life as He did in the story above.  The Word of God is our primary source of revelation from God, but there are times we need direction about specific things in our lives.  I believe God still speaks and I want Him to speak to me clearly.

Prayer:

Father, speak to me through Your word.  Speak to me through the inner leading of the Holy Spirit.  Speak to me through visions.  Speak to me through dreams.  Simply put God, I want to hear from You concerning my life.  Open my ears to hear from You and my eyes to see You more clearly each day.  I want to do Your will.  I just want to be very clear about what Your will is each day.

Your Son,
Jeff

Kindness

Scripture:

“Now therefore, do not be afraid; I will provide for you and your little ones.” And he comforted them and spoke kindly to them.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭50:21‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Observation:

Joseph’s father had died and his brothers were afraid he would then have them killed.  They thought he was just being nice to them because his father was alive and his father would want it.  Joseph reminded them that God was in control and that it was God who had brought him there and not their decision to sell him into slavery.  Instead of retribution, Joseph said he would provide for their kids and he spoke kindly to them.

Application:

There are times when we have the right to speak out and hurt others, but comfort and kindness is always better than being angry.  We need to respond with kindness to those who think we are out to get them.  Jesus said to bless those who persecute you.  I want kindness and gentleness to be my response in every situation.

Prayer:

Father, help me to walk in goodness and kindness.  Teach me to walk in humility and to be kind, even when I think I’m right.  Empower me to live a life You can bless.  Help me to have the mind of Christ at all times.  Help me to choose my words well and to exhibit self-control.

Your Son,
Jeff

Blessed By Association

Scripture:

"The land of Egypt is before you.  Have your brothers dwell in the best of the land; let them dwell in the land of Goshen.  And if you know any competent men among them, then make them chief herdsmen over my livestock."  Genesis 47:6 NKJV

Observation:

Joseph's family was moving into Egypt because of the famine.  God has prepared a place for them because of Joseph's life.  As they were entering, Pharaoh told Joseph to give them the best of the land of Goshen for their flocks and herds.  He also told Joseph to have one of his brothers become chief herdsman over his livestock.  One of Joseph's brothers was to take care of the king's livestock simply because of the blessing on Joseph's life.

Application:

When God's favor really comes on someone, even those around them will be blessed because of their obedience.  When we walk with God and serve Him well, even those around you get blessed by association.  I want to live in the blessing of God every day of my life.  I blessing follows obedience, therefore I want to live a life of obedience to the will of God.

Prayer:

Father, enable me to do Your will in my life.  Let those around me be blessed by the favor on my life.  Let my wife and children be blessed.  Let my church be blessed.  Let my neighbors be blessed.  Let your favor be so real on my life that those around me reap the rewards of my obedience.  Help me to walk in step with You and to accomplish all You ask me to in and with my life.

Yours,
Jeff

It Was God All Along

Scripture:

“And God sent me before you to preserve a posterity for you in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭45:7‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Observation:

When Joseph finally revealed himself to his brothers, who had sold him into slavery, he told them that God had sent him ahead of them to save their lives with a great deliverance.  Joseph, instead of being full of revenge, simply acknowledged that God had been working this whole time.  It was about 17 years from the dream to the fulfillment of it.  It took being a slave and a prisoner to get Joseph where he needed to be, but God was working all along to bring him into his destiny.

Application:

Sometimes when things go wrong in our lives we feel like we are out of the will of God and that God is far off.  When things don’t go as planned, it is easy to feel like God has deserted us.  Maybe it is God working in our lives all along to get us where we need to be in order to fulfill His will for our lives.  I may go through some difficult seasons, but if I remain faithful to the Lord, He will turn all of it around for His glory and the fulfillment of my destiny.

Prayer:

Lord God Almighty, You know my heart and desire to serve You and follow You.  You are working in my life right now, even though it doesn’t feel like it.  I surrender to Your will and ask You to help me to pass every test and to remain faithful to You and Your kingdom.  Help me to have the right attitude at all times as I do my best to serve You well.

Yours,
Jeff

In One Moment

Scripture:

“You shall be over my house, and all my people shall be ruled according to your word; only in regard to the throne will I be greater than you.””
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭41:40‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Observation:

This passage refers to the story of Joseph.  After being in Potipher’s house for a long time and in prison for a long time, he was raised to his position of influence and power very quickly.  I a very short moment, he went from being a prisoner to being in charge of all Egypt.

Application:

When God promotes someone to fulfill their destiny, there is nothing in the world that can stop it from coming to pass.  In one moment, God can turn our lives radically.  In one moment, our future can completely change in God.  In one moment, God can change any circumstance.  I need to be like Joseph, faithfully serving and doing what was in front of him until God raised him up to do more.

Prayer:

Father, help me to serve You faithfully in each season of my life.  Help me to also walk in confidence that the things You have called me to will come to pass, whether in my timing or not.  What You have spoken, You are able to perform.  Help me to live faithful to Your calling in the good and bad times.  I am yours.

Your Son,

When God is With You

Scripture:

“The LORD was with Joseph, and he was a successful man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. And his master saw that the LORD was with him and that the LORD made all he did to prosper in his hand.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭39:2-3‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Observation:

Joseph had been sold by his very own brothers into slavery to a man named Potiphar, but the Lord was “with” Joseph.  As a slave, he was very successful and God made everything he did to prosper.  His master noticed the God was with Joseph and put him in charge of everything he had.  It was the Lord who prospered Joseph.

Application:

When God is with you, even those above you will recognize it.  When God is truly with You, success is and natural result.  When God is with you, you will prosper.  My place is to walk in sync with the Lord.  I want the hand of God on my life in greater ways.  I want to talk “with” Him and walk “with Him” more and more.  I want to know Him more and more.

Prayer:

Father, help me to walk in step with You.  Teach me to sync my life with You continually.  I want to live in Your blessing and favor.  Help me to walk in alignment and not to do things on my own.  Teach me to wait on You instead of moving forward and hoping You are with me.

Yours Forever,
Jeff

Prevailing the Struggle

Scripture:

“And He said, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed.””
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭32:28‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Observation:

Jacob was on his way to see his brother whose birthright and blessing he had taken away.  He thought he was going to be killed so he sent gifts ahead of him for his brother.  As he was on his way, he had a wrestling match with an angel.  As daybreak was coming the angel said he needed to go and Jacob said he wouldn’t let go until he received a blessing.  The angel told him, “you have struggled with God and with men and have prevailed.”

Application:

Jacob struggled with God and with men.  These two struggles are always around us.  Our place is to hold onto God until we prevail in both areas.  Jacob ended up having his name changed to Israel at this point.  Sometimes we have to hold onto the promises of God, even when men don’t understand and men don’t support what we are doing.  I have contended with God and with men, may God always win out in my life.

Prayer:

Father, I love You.  You are incredible and I desire more and more of You each day.  May I always contend for what I know You have put in my heart.  Help me not to give into man and wanting man’s approval, but to always seek the approval of God.  Give me strength to contend with man, when necessary, and prevail.  I will always seek You face and long for You.  May Your favor rest on my life as I go after You.

Jeff

Let God Defend Me

Scripture:

“So my righteousness will answer for me in time to come, when the subject of my wages comes before you: every one that is not speckled and spotted among the goats, and brown among the lambs, will be considered stolen, if it is with me.””
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭30:33‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Observation:

Jacob had spent many years serving Laban for his daughters and God had blessed Laban because of Jacob.  As they were separating and Jacob was asking to leave and build his own family and household, Jacob told Laban to give him all the streaked, spotted and speckled sheep and goats.  This way he was giving Laban the best of them all.  He was trusting God to take the worst and make them strong so Laban couldn’t accuse him of anything.

Application:

Jacob said the words, “my righteousness will answer for me in time to come.”  He was believing that God could take the worst and make it the best.  He also was trusting that God would defend him instead of defending himself.  Sometimes the best thing we can do is let the Lord defend us instead of arguing about what we deserve or fighting for things.  I need to let God defend me and bless me, then people will see that He is good and blesses His people.

Prayer:

Father, help me to walk in humility and always do the right thing.  Teach me to not defend myself and argue and fight for myself, but to follow You completely and with all my heart.  You are my defense! Help me to trust You in that instead of feeling the need to defend my thoughts, actions, etc.

Yours,
Jeff

The Power of Our Words

Scripture:

“And Esau said to his father, “Have you only one blessing, my father? Bless me—me also, O my father!” And Esau lifted up his voice and wept.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭27:38‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Observation:

Jacob had deceitfully taken the blessing of his father from his brother Esau.  When Esau returned to receive the blessing from his father, Isaac told him he had already blessed his brother and that, even though it was done in deceit, he couldn’t take back what he had spoken.  He seemingly had every right to take back the blessing from Jacob, but he realized he had already spoken it and could do nothing about it.

Application:

I need to watch my words carefully.  Proverbs tells us the power of death and life are in our tongue.  James tells us that out of the same mouth shouldn’t flow blessing and curses.  I want to release God’s blessing through my words into the lives of people.  As the Psalmist said, “May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be holy and pleasing to the Lord”.

Prayer:

Father, let me bless what You bless and curse what You curse.  Teach me to count my words and make them count.  Help me to speak in a way that blesses You and builds Your kingdom.  Help me to control my tongue and let rivers of life flow out of it.

Your Son,

Jeff

The Lord Will Provide

Scripture:

Genesis 22:14 "And Abraham called the name of the place, The-Lord-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day.  'In the Mount of the Lord it shall be provided.'"

Observation:

Abraham had proved to the Lord that he was willing to offer everything he had, his only son, Isaac as a sacrifice to the Lord.  He was just about to sacrifice his son when an angel of the Lord stopped him and said he had proven he would withhold nothing from the Lord.  He then saw a ram caught in the thicket and knew God had provided the sacrifice.

Application:

When we have really given our everything to the Lord, we will know Him as Jehovah Jireh.  He is a provider to those who are willing to lay everything down before Him.  God takes care of His own.  He is our provider and knows every need in our lives.  I need to trust God more in the area of provision and not worry about where the resources are going to come from.  He is my provider!

Prayer:

Father, You have been faithful to me all the days of my life.  You have provided over and over again for me and my family.  You have proved Yourself faithful to me.  Help me to trust You more and not to worry about provision.  I want to do everything You call me to do, therefore help me to take steps of faith and obedience knowing You will provide.

Yours Forever,
Jeff

Escape For Your Life

Scripture:

“So it came to pass, when they had brought them outside, that he said, “Escape for your life! Do not look behind you nor stay anywhere in the plain. Escape to the mountains, lest you be destroyed.””
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭19:17‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Observation:

Two angels had come to Sodom to destroy it, but they were also to rescue Lot and his family before the destruction came.  They told Lot to escape for your life and don’t look back or stay anywhere in the plain.  Destruction was coming and the angels warned them to get going asap and not look back.  Later, in verse 26 we see that Lot’s wife looked back and became a pillar of salt.

Application:

When God tells us to move ahead, we can’t keep looking back to camping in the land where we are from.  When God calls us to do something, we must move with Him and not look back.  Jesus said things like, “any man who puts his hand to the plow and looks back, is not fit for the Kingdom of God.”  What God is going to do next is ahead of us, not behind us.  We must be a forward thinking people.

Prayer:

Father, help me not to live in the past, but to move into my future and where You are taking me.  Teach me that what is ahead of me is more valuable then what is behind me.  When You speak, enable me to obey quickly and move forward.  Let my eyes be open to see what You are doing and to hear what You are saying.  Let my heart be prepared to move when You say move.  I want to be in step with You.

Yours,
Jeff

That Very Same Day

Scripture:

“So Abraham took Ishmael his son, all who were born in his house and all who were bought with his money, every male among the men of Abraham’s house, and circumcised the flesh of their foreskins that very same day, as God had said to him.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭17:23‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Observation:

When God spoke to Abraham about a covenant, Abraham obeyed immediately.  God’s command was for Abraham to circumcise every male in his camp.  Anyone born in his house or bought by him was to be circumcised.  Abraham did it “that very same day.”

Application:

I struggle with what I call “delayed obedience”.  I always want to do what God speaks to my heart, but often I want to pray about it, confirm it, plan it, and do it when it is convenient for me.  I tend to delay my obedience.  I love that Abraham did it “that very same day.”  I want to begin living a life of “that very same day” obedience.

Prayer:

Lord God Almighty, You know my heart an dhow I always want to do Your will, but often I delay in my obedience and take my time getting around to it.  You have been gracious to me in my delayed obedience, but I don’t want to live that way any more.  I want to obey You immediately.  I want to walk in step with You and not have You need to slow down to wait on me.  Help me to follow Your lead immediately.

Your Son,
Jeff

When God Says Go

Scripture:

“Then Abram took Sarai his wife and Lot his brother’s son, and all their possessions that they had gathered, and the people whom they had acquired in Haran, and they departed to go to the land of Canaan. So they came to the land of Canaan.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭12:5‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Observation:

When Abram was called to leave the place of his mother and father and go to a new land, he didn’t leave his roots in his hometown.  He picked up everything they owned and moved to the new location.  He didn’t have a backup plan for coming home if it didn’t work out.  He simply obeyed the call of the Lord and went forward with everything he had.

Application:

When God says Go, the only response is to pick up what we have and move forward without looking back or having an exit plan in case it doesn’t work out.  When God calls you to a place, you have to put down roots and plan to stay.  Just as Abram took ALL his possessions and ALL his family, we must be willing to move when God says move and do it with everything we have.

Prayer:

Lord, help me to follow You completely in every area of my life.  When you speak, I want to follow wholeheartedly.  I want to move forward into whatever you call me to do.  Let my roots go down deep into Loudoun County, the place You have called me to.

Yours Forever,
Jeff

Seed time and Harvest

Scripture:

““While the earth remains, Seedtime and harvest, Cold and heat, Winter and summer, And day and night Shall not cease.””
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭8:22‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Observation:

After the great flood of Noah, the Lord made a covenant with Noah that said He would never destroy the earth with a flood again.  He then said that as long as the earth remains, there will be seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, and day and night.  In other words, there will be cycles in the earth and the atmosphere and everything will happen in cycles

Application:

When I look at life, I have come to realize that these principles are true for our lives as well.  There area seasons and cycles that we all go through.  There are dry seasons and wet seasons.  There are prosperous season and poverty seasons.  There are productive seasons and non-productive seasons.  We need to realize the seasons and stop trying to make things produce out of their season.  We must work within the season we are in at the time.

Prayer:

Father, open my eyes to Your seasons.  Show me the seasons and cycles of my life and help me to adjust to them.  Help me not to force things in a season where that thing is not needed or ready.  Help me to learn to work within the season I am currently in.  You are Lord of the seasons.  Help me to adjust my life to the seasons and cycles.

Yours,
Jeff

Obedience and Faithfulness

Scripture:

“Thus Noah did; according to all that God commanded him, so he did.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭6:22‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Observation:

When God chose Noah to build an ark, there had never been an ark before.  He was building something huge out of obedience to the Lord.  There had never even been rain before that point, yet Noah obeyed the Lord and worked on the project for decades, while others looked on and asked him what he was doing.  They made fun of him for building the ark, but Noah remained obedient and faithful to the call of God.

Application:

Obedience to God doesn’t always look like success in everyone else’s eyes.  Sometimes God call us to do things that don’t make sense to us or to anyone around us, but God always has a plan.  At some point, the tables will turn for the obedient and everyone will wish they had listened to the voice of God as well.  Obedience must be what we live for, not success.  Success follows obedience, but sometimes, like for Noah, it will take some time.

Prayer:

Lord God Almighty, You are incredible and I worship You with all my heart.  Your goodness and faithfulness has no end.  Help me to walk in obedience and not just do what everyone else is doing.  Teach me to follow You wholeheartedly instead of following what I think is right.

Your Son,
Jeff

Original Intent

Scripture:

“Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.””
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭1:28‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Observation:

Whenever you want to understand something, you have to look to the original intent of the designer.  What did the creator intend for that thing?  Here God creates man and tells him his intentions, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over” all of creation.  God designed man to rule over His creation and have dominion over it.

Application:

God didn’t make me to whine and complain about my surroundings, but to have dominion over them.  God didn’t make me to be dominated by anything but Him and therefore, I must learn to walk in the dominion of His original intent.  He made us like Him and we are to walk in His authority and power.  My goal is to walk in God’s original intent.

Prayer:

Father, teach me to walk with You and to have dominion in my sphere of influence.  Help me to make the world a better place and to change it for Your glory.  Teach me to live a life of faith and to become an excellent representative of You on this earth.

Happy New Year,
Jeff
