Sudden Changes of Heart

Scripture:

II Samuel 13:15 "Then suddenly Amnon's love turned to hate, and he hated her even more than he had loved her. 'Get out of here' he snarled at her".

Observation:

Amnon was in love with his half sister Tamar for a long time. He was full of lust for her and wanted to be with her so badly. He organized a plan so he could be alone with her. She didn't go along with the plan and he rapes the woman he has loved from a distance for a long time. Immediately afterward, his love is turned to hate and his hate for her was stronger than his love ever was. The sudden change of heart came because he knew he had done wrong and it realized it wasn't worth what he had to pay for it.

Application:

Sin will take you where you didn't want to go, keep you longer than you want to stay, and eventually destroy your life. Sin always looks appealing and makes you think if you partake, you will be much better off. Then you finally give in and end up hating yourself more in the end because you gave in and found out it wasn't worth it and it only brought about more problems. Once you give in to the sin, you have a "sudden change of heart" and conviction sets in. Sin is never worth the price tag.

Prayer:

Lord, the enemy never tempts us with things that don't appear wonderful. He always makes it look like the sin will help you and make you feel good, but it always turns around to bite you. Teach us to love God more than anything in this world so that our love for You will keep us in the place of absolute satisfaction. Let us be so in love with You that we don't have time to entertain thoughts of sin.

You're the best!

Jeff
