Scripture:
II Samuel 24:14 "And David said to Gad, 'I am in great distress. Please let us fall into the hand of the Lord, for His mercies are great; but do not let me fall into the hand of man'".
Observation:
David had numbered the people, which he knew was not God's will, even though in verse 1 it says that God moved David to do it. He knew better and brought judgement onto Israel. In his distress and under a plague coming on the people, David says, please let me fall into the hand of God and not man because God has great mercy. David understood that God's mercy is incredible, yet man can be extremely judgmental.
Application:
It is better to fall into the hands of a loving God than into the hands of His creation. People can be very hurtful and revengeful, but God is full of mercy having compassion on us for generations. It is better to leave be in God's hands than anywhere else in the world. He is a just God and will take care of us. David was very wise and knew the Lord intimately. He knew of God's grace.
Prayer:
Lord, teach us to lean on you at all times. Thank You for Your amazing mercy. You withhold the judgment I deserve and sent Your Son to take my punishment. WOW! You blow me away with You faithfulness to us. Thank You for not being like us.
Your Son,
Jeff
