Scripture:
Mark 8:33 "But turning around and seeing His disciples, He rebuked Peter and said, 'Get behind Me, Satan; for you are not setting your mind on God's interests, but man's'".
Observation:
In this passage, Jesus had been telling His disciples that He must die and rise again in three days. Peter began to rebuke the Lord for this and telling Him he wouldn't let it happen. Jesus turns to Peter and calls him Satan. He tells Peter that he wasn't setting his mind on what God wanted, but what he wanted.
Application:
God wants His children to be interested in what He is interested in and for them to be focused on His will instead of their own. Many times we want God to do what is in our best interest and God has totally different plans and desires. What we feel we need and even what seems right, may not be what God wants. Are we seeking our own interests or the interests of God?
Prayer:
Father, help me to focus on Your interests and not my own. Help me to think about the things of the Kingdom and not only what will bless my life. I want to be about Your business and simply trust You to take care of my business.
Yours,
Jeff
