Scripture:
Acts 12:22-23 "The people gave him a great ovation, shouting, 'It's the voice of a god, not of a man!' Instantly, an angel of the Lord struck Herod with a sickness, because he accepted the people's worship instead of giving the glory to God. So he was consumed with worms and died."
Observation:
Herod was giving a speech and received a great ovation from the people. They were honoring him and said, "it is the voice of a god and not of a man!" Immediately, the scripture says, an angel struck him with sickness because he accepted worship instead of giving glory to God. He was consumed with worms and died.
Application:
God is a jealous God. He doesn't like it when any created person receives worship. Herod didn't give glory to God, and died because of it. This man wasn't even a follower of Jesus, yet he died for allowing himself to be worshiped instead of God. How much more, as followers of Christ, should we be cautious of taking glory from God?
Prayer:
Lord, let my life always bring your honor and great respect. Help me to never take glory from You, but to direct all glory to You. I love you and want Your name glorified. Teach me how to navigate this area of glory and how to properly respond.
Yours,
Jeff
