Scripture:
Acts 2:42 "They devoted themselves to the apostles teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer".
Observation:
After the incredible outpouring of the Holy Spirit, the very next thing we see the apostles and the early church giving themselves to is so important. It tells us they were "devoted" to the right things. Devoted implies that it was with strong conviction and discipline. They were devoted to teaching, fellowship, eating together or the Lord's Supper and prayer. The next verse says that everyone was in awe of the signs and wonders performed by the apostles.
Application:
Maybe being devoted to the right things really does bring about the blessing of God. Many people want to see signs and wonders, but are they devoted to teaching, fellowship, breaking bread and prayer? We need to implement all of these things into our lives if we want to walk in the power of the early church and the power that is available to us today.
Prayer:
Lord God Almighty, You are awesome and I love You with all my heart. Help me to devote myself to what is truly important in this life. Help me to have the discipline to do things Your way and not simply follow my own plans and ideas. Your way is always best.
Yours,
Jeff
