Who is the Lord?

Scripture:

“And the LORD passed before him and proclaimed, “The LORD, the LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children to the third and the fourth generation.””
‭‭Exodus‬ ‭34:6-7‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Observation:

On Moses second trip up the mountain to have God rewrite the tablets of the Law that Moses had broken in anger because of the people’s rebellion, God proclaimed Himself to Moses.  It says that the Lord proclaimed, or introduced Himself as, “The LORD God, merciful and gracious, long suffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin”

Application:

We should see God how God sees Himself.  When God introduced Himself to Moses He said He was merciful and gracious, long suffering, full of goodness and truth, forgiving iniquity and sin.  It does say that He visits the iniquity of the father on the children to the third and fourth generation, but He introduces Himself as an incredibly loving, forgiving, kind, compassionate, God who forgives sin and iniquity.  We need to see God for who He is instead of someone up in heaven who loves to punish us for our wrongdoing.  He is truly a loving Father who walks in incredible long suffering with us.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for being kind and generous with Your forgiveness and love.  Help me to be more like You.  Teach me to hate sin, but love people like You do.  Teach me to be merciful and full of truth.  Help me to abound in goodness and truth as You do.

Yours,
Jeff
