Scripture:
“Therefore those who were scattered went everywhere preaching the word. Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria and preached Christ to them.”
Acts 8:4-5 NKJV
Observation:
A time of great persecution had come on the church in the above verse. They were being dragged off to prison and talked from their homes. The people were scattered from Jerusalem, but it worked for the expansion of the Gospel. Philip, a deacon in the church, went to Samaria and began preaching to them. When he did, revival broke out and signs and wonders followed his preaching. Sometimes, the church scattering is not a bad thing.
Application:
Right now, with Coronavirus, the church is scattered and not able to meet together in our church buildings. We are not allowed to gather in worship celebrations and discipleship gatherings, but that has never stopped the church before. As a matter of fact, wherever the church has to go underground, it grows. We must see this time of social distancing as a time to lift up Christ in our neighborhoods. We are scattered, but still the church. Separated, but still strong.
Prayer:
Father, empower Your church. Help me to lead the way. We are scattered, but You have a plan. Let us see this opportunity and make the most of it. Help us to reach out to our neighbors during this time and let us see a revival during the time of separation. What the devil meant for evil, turn it for good.
Your Son,
Jeff
