Scripture:
Numbers 11:1 "Now the people became like those who complain of adversity in the hearing of the Lord; and when the Lord heard it, His anger was kindled, and the fire of the Lord burned among them and consumed some of the outskirts of the camp".
Observation:
The people of Israel were going through the wilderness on their way to the Promised Land. On the journey they began to complain about how it would be better to have stayed in Egypt. They were not happy with how the Lord was providing for them and they let Him know it. The Lord sent fire from heaven to let them know He was not happy with their complaining.
Application:
If we really believe that the Lord is in control of our lives and is our provider, then complaining to Him about our circumstances is actually telling Him He doesn't know what He is doing and that we are smarter than Him. Part of trusting Him is accepting His provision and doing the best we can with it. God doesn't appreciate when we complain about how He is taking care of us. Faith and patience inherit God's promises, not faith and complaining.
Prayer:
Father, help me not to complain about the way You provide for me. Help me do better with what You do provide. Teach me to be a better steward of Your provision and not to complain about it. I want to walk is godliness with contentment.
Yours,
Jeff
