Original Intention

Scripture:

Genesis 1:28 "Then God blessed them and said, 'Be fruitful and multiply.  Fill the earth and govern it.  Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground'".

Observation:

God had just made Adam and Eve.  This takes place before sin entered their hearts and they disobeyed God.  Here you can see God's original intention for man.  God made man to govern and reign over every other part of God's creation.  He put man in a place of authority on the earth.  God created man in His image and gave him charge over all animals.

Application:

God's original intention for man was to see him have dominion over the earth and to reign and rule over it.    When man fell, he lost his place of authority and dominion in the earth.  When the Son of God died on a cruel cross and raised from the dead on the third day, authority came back to God's creation.  Today, we have something we don't realize we have.  Jesus took all punishment and penalty for our sins, which separated us from God.  We end up with His authority in the earth.  Wow!

Prayer:

Father, I want to understand this better.  I believe your original intention was for your people to have dominion and authority over everything else on the earth.  Teach me more about this and let me enter into the place of authority and dominion You want me to have.

Yours,
Jeff

Accept Each Other

Scripture:

Romans 15:7  "Therefore, accept each other just as Christ has accepted you so that God will be given glory".

Observation:

Paul tells the Romans to accept each other as Christ has accepted them.  This is excellent stuff because Christ accepts us with all of our habits, problems, hang ups, etc.  He accepts us, knowing we will fail Him and fall into problems in our lives.  He also says that when we do this, God will be given glory.  When people see real acceptance of others, they can't help but give God glory because it is so un-natural for us to accept all people.

Application:

As Christians, we should learn to accept others as they are.  Christ didn't tell us to change and then He would love and accept us.  He loved and accepted us before we decided to live for Him.  We all want to glorify God, but few want to accept other's cultures, ways of doing things, hang ups, etc.  Paul tell us that when we accept each other, God is glorified.

Prayer:

Father, help me to accept people for where they are and help them get where they need to got.  Teach me to be more like Christ and set an example of Christ-like love and acceptance for those around me.

Jeff

Faith that Never Waivers

Scripture:

Romans 4:20-21  "Abraham never wavered in believing God's promise.  In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God.  He was fully convinced that God was able to do whatever he promises".

Observation:

Abraham was about 100 years of age.  Many years before, God had promised to make him the father of many nations.  As his body was getting older and his wife was as well, he actually grew stronger in faith.  He was fully convinced that God would do what He said He would do.  His faith, which seemed crazy to most, actually brought glory to God.

Application:

Faith brings glory to God.  Does my faith actually bring glory to God?  How much am I willing to hang onto a promise that I know God has given me?  When do you give up on a promise from God?  These wouldn't even be questions for Abraham.  He would say that you never give up on the word of the Lord.  We must be more like Abraham and never give up on the promises of God.  We must come to the place of never wavering.

Prayer:

Lord, let my faith bring You glory.  Help me to remain strong in faith concerning the thing You have put in my spirit.  Train me in tenacious faith that grows stronger instead of weaker as time goes by.  Help me be more like Abraham.

Yours,
Jeff

Faith Worth Talking About

Scripture:

Romans 1:8  "Let me say first that I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith in him is being talked about all over the world".

Observation:

Paul tells the Romans that their faith in Christ was being talked about all over the world.  Paul thanked God for this fact, but this fact intrigues me.  Their faith must have been extraordinary for people all over the world to be talking about it.  Faith is simply trusting God.  These Romans were trusting God and walking with Him.

Application:

I want the kind of faith that is spoken of all over the world.  I want to see a church raised up that has faith that is spoken of all over the world.  I want to increase in faith every day and become a person of faith.  I know that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.  Therefore if we want more faith, we must get into God's word more.

Prayer:

Father, help me get into Your word more and more.  Teach me the life of faith that I may please You.  Help me become the person You want me to be and to fulfill Your will for my life.

Yours,
Jeff

Blessing Poured Out

Scripture:

Malachi 3:10 "Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my temple.  If you do, says the Lord of Heaven's Armies, I will open the windows of heaven for you.  I will pour out a blessing so great you won't have enough room to take it in! Try it!  Put me to the test!"

Observation:

God promises here to bless those who bring their tithes into the storehouse.  He promises such a blessing that they won't be able to contain it.  He says that He will "pour out" a blessing.  When I hear "pour out", I am immediately drawn to Acts 2 when the Holy Spirit was "poured out".  When God pours something out, He does it in a big way.

Application:

I want to be under the spout where the blessing of God is being poured out.  I am expecting blessing hat can't be contained.  As we walk in obedience to God, He will do His part of the deal!  Tithing is disputed by so many people as whether it is for today or not.  The deal today is not whether it is required, it is whether we want to honor God with our finances.  When God has your checkbook, He also has your heart.  Instead of trying to see a way to get out of it, we need to be seeing how we can give more than our tithe.  Make Him first and let the blessing be poured out in your life.

Prayer:

Father, I want to see your blessing more and more poured out in my life.  As I have been faithful to you in this area, I know You will be faithful to me.  You area amazing and you honor your word.  Thank you for always taking care of me and my family.

You're the best!

Value in Life

Scripture:

Acts 20:24 "But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus - the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God".

Observation:

Paul understood that value in life comes from completing the work assigned to us.  He said that his life had no value unless he used it to complete the work assigned to him by the Lord.  he also knew that his work was telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.  Paul went through incredible difficulties, yet remained full of joy because he knew he was doing God's will.

Application:

So many people today are looking for happiness in their careers, cars, valuables, etc.  These will never bring true happiness and fulfillment in life.  Only completing your assignment by God will bring a sense of fulfillment to your life.  When you are doing what God wants you to do, He gives you the strength to continue and a feeling of accomplishment.  Finishing the work assigned to us by God will bring about true happiness and contentment.

Prayer:

Father, Your kingdom come and Your will be done in my life.  Teach me the value of being content in completing every assignment you have given me.  I want to finish well everything You have placed before me.  Help me not get tied up in things that You have not given me, but to work with diligence at the things You have assigned me.

Yours,

Jeff

Deeply Troubled

Scripture:

Acts 17:16  "While Paul was waiting for them in Athens, he was deeply troubled by all the idols he saw everywhere in the city".

Observation:

This scripture gives me some insight into Paul's life and heart.  Most people walk through a city and see the idols all over, yet feeling nothing about it.  Sunday I preached about being "moved with compassion" as Christ was.  Here we see that Paul also was "deeply troubled" by people's idol worship.

Application:

Most people who do great things in any area of life are people who are touched deeply by a need or a strong desire.  In God's Kingdom, those who are troubled by what troubles God, generally make a huge difference for his Kingdom.  We must come to the place where we are deeply troubled by the things that deeply trouble God.  We must seek Him until we feel what he feels.  Deeply troubled is not a bad thing, when it drives you to make a difference in the world for God.

Prayer:

Father, trouble me with the things in this world that trouble You.  You are the best and I love you with all my heart.  I want to have your compassion and feel what You feel for those around me.  Teach me to be deeply troubled with the sins of the people around me instead of just seeing it and doing nothing about it.

Yours,
Jeff

Power to do Miraculous Signs and Wonders

Scripture:

Acts 14:3 "But the apostles stayed there a long time, preaching boldly about the grace of the Lord.  And the Lord proved their message was true by giving them power to do miraculous signs and wonders".

Observation:

Here the apostles were moving out on their first missionary journey and God was confirming their words by giving them power to do miraculous signs and wonders.  From the book of Acts, I conclude that God gives His power to His people when they are advancing his kingdom.  Signs and wonders were normal for the early church.  These signs and wonders were given by God to prove their message was true.

Application:

We need signs and wonders back in the church of Jesus Christ.  We are missing a crucial element of our message.  When we preach truth and are living right, the biblical pattern calls for signs and wonders to accompany our messages about Christ.  I am seeking God and asking Him to restore signs and wonders to the church of the 21st century.  I believe our generation needs to see some things that are "unexplainable" in their rational minds.

Prayer:

Father, I want to see signs and wonders in our generation.  I want You to show me what we are missing.  I am fully convinced that it is Your will and pattern to use signs and wonders to confirm your message.  Reveal to me what is going on and why our churches are powerless.  Help me to become more like our early church fathers who moved in great power.

Yours Forever,
Jeff

No Favoritism

Scripture:

Acts 10:34 "Then Peter replied, 'I see very clearly that God shows no favoritism'".

Observation:

Peter had a vision of a blanket coming down from heaven full of every kind of animal and was told to take it an deat.  Peter didn't want to because it was considered unclean meat.  Finally God told him not to call unclean what God had cleaned.  Next he ended up at a Gentile's house and the Holy Spirit was poured out on them like the original outpouring.  All Peter could think was, "God shows no favorites".

Application:

God doesn't show favorites.  He doesn't love one more than another.  He doesn't choose one culture over another.  He pours out His Spirit on Jews and Gentiles.  He loves all unconditionally and treats us all the same.  We should be more like Him and stop showing favoritism.  We should try to become like our heavenly father in this area.  Favoritism helps doesn't help anyone and we should try to avoid it in our lives.

Prayer:

Father, help me be more like You today.  Help me to avoid favoritism in my life.  help me to see all people as You see them.  You are amazing!

Fill the City

Scripture:

Acts 5:28 "'Didn't we tell you never again to teach in this man's name?' he demanded.  'Instead, you have filled all Jerusalem with your teaching about Him, and you want to make us responsible for his death'".

Observation:

The apostles had been busy preaching, healing, teaching, casting out devils, and performing signs and wonders.  They were brought before the high priest and rulers of the synagogue because they were jealous of the apostles.  One of the charges against them was simply awesome: "you have filled all Jerusalem with your teaching about him".  What an awesome statement from someone who is opposing what you are doing. This is an incredible compliment!

Application:

In the day we live in, we need to take this example and begin to fill our cities with the word of God.  God wants to fill cities with his knowledge, presence and power, but His people must be about His business.  I want to see the day of revival come so strong that the ungodly accuse us of filling cities with God's good news.

Prayer:

Father, let your church have it's fire and passion restored.  May we fill cities with Your knowledge.  Help us to be the people You want us to be and to represent you well.  Let is start in me.  Forgive me for not sharing my faith more and help me to be more bold about you as the apostles of old were.

Yours,
Jeff

Through the fire

Scripture:

Zechariah 13:9 "I will bring that group through the fire and make them pure.  I will refine them like silver and purify them like gold.  They will call on my name, and I will answer them.  I will say, 'These are my people,' and they will say, 'The Lord is our God'".

Observation:

God here is talking about a day when He will purge, cleanse, purify, and refine His people.  As they are purified, it also says that then they will call on His name and He will answer them.  Purity brings power!  Here we see God speaking to His people and telling them that when their day of fire and purifying is over, He will answer them as they call.  God is looking for a holy people who are consecrated to Him.

Application:

Everyone wants the blessing of the Lord and the power of the Lord.  Everyone wants to call on Him and get answers, but nobody wants the purifying and purging fire of the Holy Spirit to work on their lives.  It is a beautiful thing to be refined as gold or silver, but the fire is also hot and most of us don't want that in our lives.  The fire is uncomfortable, but necessary.  If we want His blessing, we must desire His fire to purify us.

Prayer:

Father, purify my life.  Work on me today that I may be more like You.  Let Your Spirit purge and cleanse me today and let my life look more like Yours.  I want to resemble my Father in every way possible.  help me do it well.

Your Son,
Jeff

Is it Impossible for Me?

Scripture:

Zechariah 8:6 "All this may seem impossible for you now, a small remnant of God's people.  But is it impossible for me?"

Observation:

God was speaking through Zechariah about the return of Jerusalem to power.  He was saying this, when the people of God were exiled all over the world and they were basically powerless under the control of their enemies.  God is the God of the impossible and loves to take nothing and make something great of it.  He specializes in taking what is weak and making it strong.

Application:

If God can speak to a people who felt powerless and that all hope was gone for them returning to their nation and tell them that it may seem impossible, but what is impossible for God?  This tells me that the needs in my life are not bigger than my God.  God is speaking this morning and saying, "is it impossible for me?"  We must come to the place where our faith grows and our trust that God is real, cares for us, and can do absolutely anything.  If God can restore Israel to its former glory, He can do great things in my life.

Prayer:

Father, let me walk in faith today more than ever.  Teach me to walk in complete trust.  You are amazing!  Demonstrate Your power in my life and my family.  Take a small remnant called Word of Life and make it powerful in Your kingdom as we continue to seek You.  Pour out Your Spirit in Loudoun County and do what seems cannot be done  Revive this region!

Yours forever,
jeff

Small Beginnings

Scripture:

Zechariah 4:10 "Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin"

Observation:

In this scripture, an angel comes and speaks about Zerubabbel.  He says that Zeruababbel laid the foundation and he would complete the temple.  As he is speaking of Zerubabbel and his starting the foundation of the temple, he says, "do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin".

Application:

Sometimes in ministry, things don't go the way we thought they would.  Sometimes growth takes longer than we thought it would and we get frustrated.  In America, we believe the growth equals success.  Therefore, we feel like if things aren't growing quick enough, we are not successful. This verse helps me see that God loves the fact that the work is started and is rejoicing over it rather than upset that it hasn't grown fast enough.  We can never despise the day of small beginnings.

Prayer:

Father, help me be faithful to what You have called me to do no matter what comes my way.  Help me to see success as obedience to the will of God and not focus on numbers.  Your Kingdom come and Your will be done in my life.  Help me to live a life that bring you honor and let me reach someone for You today.

Yours,
Jeff

The Gift of Peace

Scripture:

John 14:27 "I am leaving you with a gift - peace of mind and heart.  And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give.  So don't be troubled or afraid".

Observation:

Jesus knew He was approaching the end of His life and was speaking some preparatory words to them to get them read for His departure.  As He was preparing to die and be raised again, Jesus told those closest to Him that He was leaving them the gift of peace.  This meant they didn't have to be troubled or afraid of anything.

Application:

Many people today love Jesus, but seem to have no peace.  Jesus said He would give the gift of peace of mind and heart to His people in this passage.  The world seems out of control at this time.  Everything is rushing at a pace that is incredible and cannot be maintained.  We, the people of God need His peace as never before.  It is a gift given, all we need to do is to choose to receive the gift and begin to flow in it.  We must choose peace, and not let stress run our lives.

Prayer:

Father, teach me to walk in Your peace, knowing You have every detail of my life in your control.  I submit myself once again to You and ask You to fill me with Your peace.  Help me to demonstrate peace to those around me and not let the stresses of the day get me down.

Yours,
Jeff Jacob
